I am reposting this plus slightly expanding this topic.
Here you can share you JKA playing tips.
WIDESCREEN JKA
The following method should work for the many games that are based on the Q3 engine. This includes JKA as well.
* Install Q3 based game and run once, to generate the .cfg file. In our case jaspconfig.cfg and jampconfig.cfg for single player and multiplayer, respectively. Located at the base folder if you run vanilla game or japlus folder if you run from japlus.
Method 1:
1. Navigate to directory where the game was installed.
2. Open the config.cfg file in the base directory with any text editor. (This file's name will vary depending on the game installed. For Jedi Academy, it is jampconfig.cfg or jaspconfig.cfg)
3. Find the string 'seta r_customwidth' and set it to the native width of your monitor. For instance, '1680'
4. Find the string 'seta r_customheight' and set it to the native height of your monitor. For instance, '1050'
5. Find the string 'seta r_mode' and set it to to '-1'.
6. You are going to need to change the FOV now, or you will not be able to use the extra pixels you just enabled. This is what allows the Q3 engine to 'natively' support widescreen resolutions. Find the string 'seta cg_fov' and change the value to '100'. Default is 80.
Save the file, and start the game.
Method 2:
1. Run the game once, open the game console and type these commands and hit enter after each:
r_customwidth "value"
r_customheight "value"
r_mode -1
cg_fov 100
writeconfig jampconfig (or jaspconfig)
2. After typing those settings in console, type the following too. Your JKA will restart with new settings:
vid_restart
* Do not change the resolution in settings, or you will have to do those steps again. Note that the intro videos may not display properly with custom resolutions, so you will just have to hit a button to bypass them.
* If you are using JAplus mod, your jampconfig.cfg may be located in japlus folder, not base. It may result in issues related to resolution, if this happens, just copy the cfg to your base after you are done adjusting the settings.
